Oliveto Announces September “It’s Complicated” panels

Oliveto owners Bob and Maggie Klein and Executive Chef Jonah Rhodehamel are pleased to continue “It’s Complicated,” a series of conversations about eating, cooking, and the politics of food.

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, the panel will cover Grass-Fed Beef with guest speakers including Journalist Michael Pollan, Rancher Mac Magruder, Project Coordinator of the Mendocino County EDFC Kathryn Quanbeck and Chef Jonah Rhodehamel of Oliveto. They will discuss the hurdles faced by ranchers, butchers, chefs, and consumers in establishing a local, small-producer, beef economy with conscientious animal-welfare protocols in Northern California, as well as long-term goals and what is still needed by way of infrastructure, education, and end-user expectation and demand.

On Sunday, September 16, 2012, Oliveto will host the Heirloom Tomato Tasting & Panel with guest speakers including Tim Mueller of Riverdog Farm, Produce Consultant Bill Fujimoto of Diablo Foods and former produce buyer/owner of Monterey Market, Oliveto Executive Chef Jonah Rhodehamel, Oliveto Chef de Cuisine Luciano Duco, and Oliveto Pastry Chef Jenny Raven. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste several different varieties of heirloom tomatoes and join the conversation about the best local varieties and their acidity, flavor, color, texture, and best use.
