Marc Chagall’s Echoes of Nature Original Lithographs Exhibition and Silent Auction

The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn in partnership with Salon D’ Art program, sponsored by Linearis is pleased to announce an exhibition and silent auction of “Marc Chagall’s Bible, 1960: Echoes of Nature.” For the first time in a decade, the entire series of 24 original lithographs will be displayed. The collection will be unveiled in the Lobby Living Room at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn on Friday, November 23, from 5:00-8:30p.

The first lithographs, printed by the great French lithographers Mourlot Frères, were published in 1956. They were met with such high acclaim that Chagall made a further set, which was published in 1960.

Rick Corcoran, General Manager at the Inn shares, “we are particularly honored to partner with the Salon D’Art Program, sponsored by Linearis, to unveil this unparalleled collection. Our guests and neighbors are invited to witness a truly rare opportunity to experience Chagall’s intended vision in its fullness.”

Old Testament subjects are depicted in 24 in full color double-sided Original Lithographs: the creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Hagar in the desert, the meeting of Ruth and Boaz, Job at prayer, & more. Captions cite biblical sources of each drawing. Russian-born painter and designer, Marc Chagall (1887-1985), established a reputation as one of the best-loved artists of the 20th century. His work was dominated by two rich sources of imagery; memories of the Jewish life and folklore of his early years in Russia; and the Bible.

“Whenever I bent over the lithography stone…it was as though I was touching a talisman. It seemed as though I could pour all my sadness and joys into it.” – Chagall
