Celebrate Christmas and New Year at Brasseries S & P

Brasserie S&P Restaurant (Sansome and Pine), located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in San Francisco’s Financial District, is now occupying the space that once housed Silks Restaurant. They are located inside the hotel lobby and to the left.

The restaurant has an elegant yet casual feel, with contemporary yet comforting decor. Floor to ceiling windows, offer it’s patrons views while being surrounded by the warmth of wood and leather. The tables are appointed with beautiful linens, glasses and stemware.

The bar is located next to the dining area and though easily accessible, the noise level can be quite elevated in the restaurant. Intimate dining is not to be expected here as it is quite a lively atmosphere. It highlights 34 varieties of Gin, for all you enthusiasts out there, and they are displayed together on shelves, subtly illuminated with soft backlighting.

The menus creative credit goes to Executive Chef Adam Mali, who has had an impressive career spanning over 25 years preparing cuisine in some of the finest restaurants in the U.S. including Gary Danko here in San Francisco. He employs a mixture of fresh local produce, seafood, poultry products, beef and cheeses to create his fabulous dishes.

The menu is California Cuisine with a creative presentation. They feature a variety of meats by suppliers such as Fallon Hills Ranch, Creekstone Farms and Sonoma County Poultry. They also have a variety of vegetarian dishes to offer.

I have personally experienced dining at Brasserie S&P on two occasions and have enjoyed the Local Albacore “Poke” Crudo, prepared with macadamias, sesame oil and Fresno Chiles, Local Oysters with ginger (quite zesty), a Marshmallow dessert with brandy that was out of this world and the the Yogurt Granola Parfait which was quite yummy! I found the plate presentation quite pleasing to the eye, with colorful garnishes adorning each plate.

The restaurant boasts a “Raw Bar” serving local and Canadian oysters and a “fresh” Juice mixology selection each day.

The wait staff was wonderful as they were very attentive, cheerful and friendly. They were well versed in the menu and willing to assist you with substitutions. The prices are reasonable and set at $30 and under. The restaurant is very popular with the younger crowd while also appealing to business clientele. With a broad range of hours, it makes it easy to do a breakfast, lunch or dinner meeting.

Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6 AM to 11 PM and Saturday and Sunday 7 AM to 11 PM.

Brasserie S&P offers a lively dining experience with good food, served with flare, for the casual and fine dining customer. They have created a unique dining experience for “foodies” at large. In addition to the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners ($75 per person and $45 with wine pairings),  Brasserie S&P will also host a Christmas Day Brunch Buffet from 10am to 3pm and costs $65 for adults and $35 for kids. On New Year’s Eve, they will be hosting a pre-New Year’s Eve Champagne Reception and live music at Brasserie S&P before guests head off to late night festivities for USD45 per person or venture upstairs to their guest rooms to enjoy the magnificent fireworks. On New Year’s Day, guests can toast new beginnings with the Gin Hangover Cure Brunch, an a la carte brunch with Gin tasting, available all day.
