Wine Luxury – A Stylish Statement in both Fashion and Wine

The Wine Luxury Soiree held at the city club last Friday was a well-put-together three floor event which wowed both fashionistas and winos alike. Forty “top cellar” wineries were in attendance, each sampling several bottles of their respective “top sellers”; more than enough wine for one evening, to say the least. We at GEV loved just about everything poured but the one that stood out for me personally was The Wine Foundry, not only because of the congenial staff but because of their fine business model as well. The Wine Foundry allows groups or individuals to make their own wine at their winery with the expert guidance of their staff. The process begins with choosing a vineyard for fruit, then you proceed to making the wine, designing the packaging and even conducting a blending trial to fine tune it to suit your palate. This is a 6-24 month process and pricing is by the barrel.

The event also had a strong fashion presence with several designers showing their creations worn by fabulous models atop several mini-stages set up on all three floors. Local San Francisco designer Tuan Tran consistently provides beautiful and sustainable pieces on display. The fabric which was prominently a crowd-pleaser on some of his designs, upon further inquiry, turned out to be hand woven hemp fabric that was also hand dyed. Also interesting was that some of the material were recycled from old garments – although that didn’t adversely affect the beauty one bit.

This masquerade-themed evening also became more magical with the live performance of Franc D’Ambrosio; the actor who played ‘Phantom’ in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Tony Award winning musical The Phantom of the Opera. D’Ambrosio’s spellbinding four song set, including “Music of the Night” definitely captivated the audience while Journey band keyboardist Jonathan Cain prompted everyone to throw down at the dance floor with his renderings of the band’s famous hits.

Master Sommeliers including celebrities Adam Richman (Man Vs. Food) plus Anthony Bourdain’s co-star Zamir Gotta indulged guests with overflowing wines from the local vintners that evening. Also spotted were local celebrities Leslie Sbrocco (Check Please! Bay Area), food personality Sonia Hunt and morning show radio personality Hooman Khalili.

Telford’s knowledgeable aficionados guided guests through the etiquette and enjoyment of fine cigars, served at a supplement in the Cigar Lounge. Luxury wine and lifestyle auction items, including fashions and art from the designers, an Oracle Racing Team tour, spectacular wines and more, were auctioned off that evening all to benefit Share Our Strength and ACCESS. All in all, Wine Luxury was a great event combining wine and entertaining fashion.
