Fish Story Napa presents World Cheese Tour with Acclaimed Cheese Authority Janet Fletcher

Award-winning cookbook author and San Francisco Chronicle cheese columnist Janet Fletcher will offer classes surveying the world of cheese at Fish Story, North Bay Bohemian’s Reader’s Choice winner for Best Seafood in Napa, on the second Tuesday of each month from May through September 2013. Classes will begin with a half-hour reception, followed by a sit-down cheese tasting. Each month will feature a unique guest winery or brewery in addition to the illustrious cheese selections.

Attendees will receive 10% off dining at Fish Story that same evening. Cheeses selected by Janet Fletcher will also be featured on the dessert menu at Fish Story each month.

The schedule for Janet Fletcher’s World Cheese Tour at Fish Story is as follows:

May 14: Us Versus Them – American wines compete on the world stage now, but what about America’s cheeses?  How does the best American Cheddar compare to its British counterpart, or the best American Gouda compare to the best from Holland? You’ll taste four pairs tonight, side by side. You be the judge! 

June 11: Notable Newbies – Be the first on your block to try these newcomers. For this tasting, Janet will select five American debutantes that have impressed her greatly and that she is betting will become cheese-counter mainstays. See if you agree that these recent arrivals have what it takes to become tomorrow’s cheese classics.

July 9: America the Bountiful – Put your locavore leanings on hold this evening. You’re trekking cross country to taste the finest cheeses made in the U.S., from Oregon to Florida. Well, maybe not Florida. But Oregon, Utah (who knew?), Wisconsin, Vermont, New York, Virginia….all have astonishing cheeses to share. Janet will round up the best available choices to give you an overview of American cheesemaking at the highest level.

Aug. 13: Better with Beer – Some cheeses just knock wine for a loop. You’ll sample some of these tasty troublemakers tonight with the beverage they love best: craft beer. Learn what cheeses bring out the best in hoppy IPAs, zippy wheat beers, creamy stouts, spicy Belgian ales, and malty bocks and brown ales. Plus a special discount tonight on Janet’s book, Cheese & Beer.

Sept. 10: Awesome with Bubbles – To kick your cheese course up a notch, open a bubbly. Tonight Janet will pop the cork on a couple of fine sparkling wines and you’ll sample them with cheeses that rise to the occasion. From triple crèmes to aged cheese to buttery blues, many cheeses love that effervescence. You’ll taste five cheeses that Janet considers slam-dunk matches for sparkling wine, whether your budget calls for cava or allows for Champagne.
