IMAF Chef’s Cup Hails Chef Stefano Cerveni as Winner at the Grand Finale

The IMAF Chef’s Cup originated in Italy with a group of 12 Michelin-starred chefs who were paired to create two dishes each, inspired by the world of the arts. The finale of the international culinary competition was hosted at Il Fornaio in San Francisco and was the place to be last September 11, with two of the top chefs from Italy battling for the grand prize. It was such a pleasure to watch two friends compete with such passion, finesse, humor and grace. Each chef shared a beautiful story which inspired them to create their finale dishes. Both of the Chefs (Rosanna Marziale of Le Colonne di Caserta and Stefano Cerveni of Le due Colombe a Corte Franca) went back to their roots, focusing on simple ingredients and elevating them to the new heights. Chef Stefano Cervenis’ winning dish was a “pheasant bread soup” with thick diced crispy quail and Black Truffles inspired by the Academy Award-winning movie “Babette’s Feast“. It was indeed a feast fit for a King. Chef Rosanna Marziale prepared Spaghetti Gragnano, wrapped in Mozzarella di Bufala and dipped in San Marzano tomatoes. The dish was inspired by the Italian movie, “Poverty and Nobility.”

Much props to artistic director and writer Rosella Canevari for putting together the fabulous event which was judged and attended by local culinary luminaries namely Amy Sherman (Cooking with Amy), Liam Mayclem (Foodie Chap), Anthony Fossani (culinary consultant), Andrei Crump (Taste TV), Sommelier Mauro Cirilli (Press Club San Francisco, Shelley Lindgren (A16 & SPQR Restaurants) & Peter Lee (President of Le Cordon Bleu SF).

About The IMAF Chef’s Cup: The IMAF Chef’s Cup competition started May 15, 2013 in Rome, Italy with seven pairs of Michelin-starred chefs competing throughout seven regions in Italy. The vision of artistic director and writer Rossella Canevari, the IMAFestival (www.imafestival.com), is an international event dedicated to haute cuisine and art that seeks to delight food and art lovers with innovative dishes and incredible presentation. The prestigious restaurants of SINA Fine Italian Hotels hosted the Italian stages of the competition.
