Wearable Art: Jill Rosoff Applies Watercolor Paintings to Unique Accessories

“The transparent quality of watercolor is one of the things that makes it so wonderful, I think, and also a kind of balancing act to paint with,” says well-known Orange County, CA watercolorist, Jill Rosoff. Jill draws inspiration for her watercolor paintings from surroundings near her home in Southern California as well as from travels in Europe, the Americas, and the South Pacific.

Jill teaches others to manage this “balancing act” through her beginner and advanced workshops at Orange Coast College and in various galleries.

Recently, Rosoff has applied her watercolor paintings to wearable accessories such as scarves and ties. Learning the silk-painting technique allowed her to apply watercolor painting and composition to designs in the silk dyeing process. Her scarves caught the attention of the owners of The Hobbit fine dining restaurant in Orange, CA, and they commissioned Jill to make the scarves and ties as uniform items for the wait staff.

This union of Jill’s watercolor designs and a food experience will culminate again in Patchwork Edible’s event featuring food vendors and fine craft vendors. Two events, October 5 from 11:00am–8:00pm and October 6 from 11:00am–5:00pm will be held at the South Coast Collection in Costa Mesa, CA.
