On of the country’s largest sugar castles, created by Executive Pastry Chef, Jean-Francois Houdré and his team, was recently unveiled in the celebrated Landmark Lobby. Originally created in 2005, this magnificent castle continues to expand each year as exciting new elements are added to the surrounding city. Since then, it has become a holiday tradition for many families to visit the hotel during the holidays to see this evolving magical village. This exciting event is open to the public and will feature music and complimentary coffee and cookies. Resembling a French medieval city, it weighs over 1300 pounds and features more than 20 grand circular towers, approximately 30 rooms, glowing windows and a running train. *New this year, and in celebration of the hotel’s upcoming 110th anniversary on March 21, 2014, is the addition of the top newsmakers over the past century on display throughout the castle. Spectators will enjoy locating and identifying these life-like elf replicas of politicians, celebrities, athletes and well-known personalities.

There is also a snow village with an ice-skating pond where elves can be seen having fun in the snow and sliding down the hillside. The Sugar Castle will be on display November 27 – January 3.


The Westin St. Francis is transformed into a festive oasis, embellished with spectacular holiday decorations created by Joe Vincent Designs. Upon entering the historic Landmark Lobby, a 15-foot, glimmering white and silver holiday tree decorated in energy saving LED lights will transcend into different colors. After enjoying the holiday festivities and shopping in Union Square, toast the season with a three-course meal at a great price at The Oak Room Restaurant. Guests will have the opportunity to choose from a selection of items including appetizers such as Sonoma baby greens salad or Dungeness crab chowder, and a choice of three entrees – herb and rock salt-crusted prime rib, roasted half chicken or grilled Pacific salmon. In addition to the regular dinner menu at The Oak Room Restaurant, Executive Chef Bernd Liebergesell has created two special entrees to enjoy on this magical evening: filet of beef with citrus prawns; and pan seared scallops with butternut squash puree. Special entrees $33-45.

For a holiday meal to truly remember, enjoy a four-course Perigord goose dinner at BOURBON STEAK, owned and operated by celebrated chef and restaurateur Michael Mina. This decadent experience begins with goose liver mousse served with huckleberry gelee, and winter black truffle.
Afterwards, guests will enjoy a goose leg confit salad with poached goose egg and chicory lettuces in bliss maple vinaigrette. The main course is crispy goose breast with caramelized ‘red Rhone’ apple, salsify and farro verde in sauce forestiere. The evening caps off with Cardinal Mendoza goose cheesecake with eggnog espuma, a gingersnap cookie crumble and kumquat. Cost: $95 per person; white truffle supplement is an additional $35 per person; wine pairing $65 per person.

December 25; 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Celebrate Christmas dinner at The Oak Room Restaurant with an extravagant buffet overflowing with scrumptious appetizers, salads, seafood, and dessert. Offering countless tantalizing choices for every taste, a sampling of items include: roast corn chowder; cheeses and cured meats; seafood favorites such as rock shrimp salad, Alaskan snow crab and smoked salmon; seasonal salads; and a dessert buffet. Additionally, guests have a choice of four holiday favorites: maple-glazed salmon with butternut squash; roasted turkey with chive whipped potatoes; prime rib with scalloped potatoes; and fig and orange glazed ham with chive whipped potatoes. Kick off the New Year’s celebration with a special dinner at the elegant Oak Room Restaurant. In addition to the regular menu, guests may choose from a selection of two special entrees: lobster crusted petit beef filet with gold potato and mascarpone puree, glazed baby vegetables,
and charred romaine with a red wine reduction; or pistachio crusted cod with spaghetti squash, roasted beets, mustard greens and star anise beurre blanc. Special entrees $34-$50.

December 31; 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Guests will celebrate the past, present and future as they ring in the New Year at BOURBON STEAK with a five-course tasting menu. The evening kicks off with tuna tartar with Asian pears and shaved black truffles, followed by a choice of a mixed chicory salad with lardon and poached farm egg in caracara orange vinaigrette or a winter black truffle consommé with osetra caviar. Guest can then choose from ‘foraged’ mushrooms with crispy pancetta, confit leeks and black truffle or house made ricotta gnudi with wagyu meatballs and local chard. A choice of crispy king medai with preserved Meyer lemon gel and porcini confit or roasted prime rib eye pave with brussel sprouts, black trumpet mushrooms and smoked tater tots follows. Finish up the evening and celebrate the beginning of the New Year with a choice of desserts – dark chocolate del ice with burnt caramel or beignets with caramel custard.
