Jacques Pépin and Isaac Mizrahi Launch a Kickstarter Campaign

Chef and Culinary Icon Chef Jacques Pépin is teaming up with world-renowned Fashion Designer Isaac Mizrahi on a Kickstarter Campaign that will attempt to raise $290,000 to fund a one-hour special that will air on PBS. Entitled “Artist’s Table”, the show will highlight their own approaches to food and the parallels between the culinary arts and design.

The original 2008 episode featuring Jacques and Itzhak Perlman was a huge hit but the landscape of corporate funding has changed since then. Pépin and Mizrahi are now taking their project directly to their followers to give them the ability to actively participate in its development. Their Kickstarter campaign will showcase a wide range of sponsorship levels from as low as $5.00. Each offering provides potential donors the ability to pitch in while making the giving process both fun and worthwhile. Offerings include a Mizrahi ringtone “Darling, answer the phone!” or a Pépin version “Répondez, répondez, répondez au téléphone!” (“Answer, answer, answer your telephone!” ($50); an opportunity to acquire limited editions of their signed and numbered giclées ($250); a chance to be a producer and receive producer credit, join Pépin and Mizrahi for a day of the shoot plus receive an invitation to the editing suite and a rough cut of the show ($10,000); or partake in a rare opportunity to attend an upcoming taping of Lifetime’s Project Runway: All-Stars capped with a luncheon with Mizrahi (also $10,000). Additional information can be obtained on the Pépin-Mizrahi Kickstarter promotion page: http://www.kickstartartiststable.com/ and on the project’s dedicated Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/ArtistsTableWithJacques.

Pépin and Mizrahi’s Kickstarter Campaign begins promptly at 10:00am EST on Thursday, May 15th and ends 30 days later at 11:59pm EST on Sunday, June 15th.  If successfully funded, production will begin in August. Friend and long-time Pépin collaborator Susie Heller and Harry Bernstein, founders of Full Plate Media, produced the first show in 2008 and will once again be coming on board for this project.  Filming will be on location at Mizrahi’s atelier and home in Bridgehampton, NY.

Pépin, veteran of multiple cooking series over the years, is embracing this new forum. He explains, “Just as with cooking, it is important to always expand your repertoire. And what better way to undertake this project than with someone whom I admire as deeply as Isaac Mizrahi.”

States Mizrahi, “Jacques is not only the greatest living chef, he’s also interested in people and in the creative process. He’s a living embodiment of creativity on so many levels. But more than anything he’s an irresistible charmer.”

Adds Pépin, “If we are successful, we will definitely continue with our efforts and make this into a series. I would invite artists from the world of music and dance who share a passion for food such as Mark Morris, Yo-Yo Ma, Mikhail Baryshnikov; Michael Tilson Thomas. After all, the food tastes better when you cook with a friend.”

About Artist’s Table

What happens when two of the most sparkling creative artists in their fields get together to share a little wine, cook a little food and talk like a couple of houses on fire? That’s the idea behind ARTIST’S TABLE, a public TV special that brings together Jacques Pépin, one of the world’s most respected chefs, and Isaac Mizrahi one of the world’s best loved designers. One of the thrills of meeting truly creative people is discovering their no-holds-barred appetite for artistic expression in whatever media come to hand. Pépin paints, designs mosaics, sculpts, creates ceramics, and lives a life immersed in music, literature and art. Mizrahi designs and directs operas, costumes stunning dance productions, and loves to cook and eat. And they both love a really juicy conversation. The show will go inside Mizrahi’s very cool studio and home kitchen for an intimate afternoon with two of the most admired and amusing artists of our time. They promise sparks, flames, laughter, and even a few moments of rare and touching beauty. The original 2008 episode, featuring Jacques and Itzhak Perlman, was a huge hit. But since then, the world of corporate funding isn’t what it used to be. That’s where crowd sourcing comes in and are inviting their supporters to be part of the creative process. Join Pépin and Mizrahi as they turn this idea that is so close to their hearts into a lively, inspiring hour of television. They are saving a place at the table for you.
