James Beard Award-winner Nancy Oakes (Boulevard | Prospect) returns for her 11th year as Gala Chair to lead an extraordinary lineup of Northern California chefs as Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (MOWSF) announces the 27th Annual Star Chefs & Vintners Gala.

This year’s Gala will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. The Star Chefs & Vintners Gala is MOWSF’s main source of contributions for the year and enables the organization to serve one of the City’s most vulnerable populations – homebound seniors. Last year’s event raised more than $2.1 million, providing more than 420,000 meals to homebound seniors. This was the highest amount raised in the history of the Gala.

“Each year, the Bay Area’s best chefs and vintners join together to ensure that no senior goes hungry,” says Ashley McCumber, MOWSF Executive Director. “It is their commitment as well as that of our donors, that Meals On Wheels of San Francisco has double its service in the past six years – even in the face of an exploding senior population. Through this collective effort, homebound seniors in San Francisco are able to live a nourished life with the support they need to remain safe and independent.”

Nearly 90 notable chefs from Northern California’s top restaurants will join Oakes to create the ultimate celebration of food, wine and cocktails. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with an hors d’oeuvre and wine reception, followed by a three-course seated dinner. Each of the seating sections will have a unique, carefully orchestrated menu, with each course designed by a different executive chef and paired with exceptional wines. Dessert reception follows.

This year’s gala will also include a raffle for a 2014 MINI Cooper, a luxury vacation to Napa Valley and a trip from Celebrity Cruises. The evening’s climax is “Fund-A-Route,” in which guests pledge cash donations towards funding an entire meal delivery route for one year.
