A community working together is a beautiful sight.  That is the community of Tel Hi.   A community with heart.  A Big Heart! With a record 124 years and counting, the Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center has been helping families from toddlers to seniors and everyone else in between.

This year, on a beautiful, warm San  Francisco evening, Taste of Tel-Hi 2014 took  place under a big white tent at the Joe Di Maggio Playground.

An exclusive cocktail reception greeted guests with wine from Cannihan Family Cellars, Fog Harbor Fish House, Mills Wine Group , Scoma’s, Sol Rouge, The Winery SF, Vie Winery and Wente Vineyards.   Martini lovers sipped on the  Tel-Hi Tini created specifically by Pier 23 Cafe for the event. Hors d’oeuvres from E&O Asian Kitchen, Fishbowl Bar & Grill, Hard Rock Cafe San Francisco, Presidio Pizza Company and Scomawas also served.   

While friends mingled, others bid on the many tempting items at the silent auction tables. There was much laughter and conversations to be heard.

Chefs Matthew Dolan from Twenty Five Lusk and Chef Brandon Peacock of Venticello Ristorante and Nob Hill Cafe teamed up to treat everyone with  a 3 course dinner paired with wine.  Chef Brandon’s Nicoise Salad was paired with Manifesto, 2012 Sauvignon Blanc from Mills Wine Group.  TR Ranch Braised Short Ribs by Chef Matthew was moist, tender and falling off the bone.  It was served with new potatoes and wild watercress and paired with 2011 Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon from Wente Vineyards.  Scoma’s  2009 Private Label Cabernet Sauvignon completed the decadent chocolate ganache set on a wafer sprinkled with sea salt and drizzled with olive oil from Chef Brandon.

Meanwhile Emcee Joe Vazquez from KPIX5 News introduced Lyn Jefferson and John Frawley Dinner Committee Co-chairs.  Shaheen Ali had the honor of reading his poems aloud.  Executive Director Nestor Fernandez II and President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, David Chiu were also present as they showed their support for one of the oldest local non-profit organizations.  Mr. Ed Gold auctioneer extraordinaire led the Live Auction and the BIDS FOR KIDS.  A Tel-Hi video presentation directed and produced by Adam Keker and Joe Vazquez was also shown.

It was heartwarming to witness the level of community participation from all the different sectors in support of the many educational, health and community programs that benefit local residents on a daily basis. Showing priceless help, love and care combined with great company makes everything doubly fun.  And if that was not enough, an ice cream cone from Ben and Jerry ensured everyone left with a smile.
