Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center to Host Taste of Tel Hi 2015
The Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center will host their 125th anniversary, and the 13th Annual Taste of Tel Hi fundraiser on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at the iconic San Francisco City Hall. The fundraiser, which raised $300,000 last year and drew a sold-out crowd of 600 attendees, brings together local culture, cuisine and community to benefit the Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center, which supports toddlers, kids, teens, families and seniors in the community.
A Taste of Tel Hi is an amazing showcase of talented chefs and experiences that demonstrate what the local community has to offer in support of Tel Hi and its numerous educational, health and community programs, which serve hundreds of local residents daily. The event will feature an elegant cocktail reception, amazing silent auction and menu previews from top chefs. Participating restaurants include Butterfly, Dobbs Ferry, Fog Harbor Fish House, Original Joe’s, Ozumo, Park Tavern, Piperade, Scoma’s, Trattoria Da Vittorio, Twenty Five Lusk, and Venticello Ristorante, with wines provided by Mumm, The Winery SF, Wente Vineyards, and ZD Wines. Butterfly’s executive chef Robert Lam will also be preparing the seated dessert course, to be served during the live auction.
The level of community support for this event can be seen from the assortment of items donated to the live and silent auction each year. This year’s generous contributions feature several highly anticipated live auction packages, including a Pixar Studio Tour and Gift Basket with “The Incredibles” Superhero Family Portrait drawn by renowned Internet cartoonist Len Peralta; a San Francisco Giants Ultimate Game Day Package with field passes, game day tickets and signed Giants memorabilia; and a Private Cooking Party For 12 at the home of Mary Risley, the founder of Tante Marie’s Cooking School.
Nestor L. Fernandez II, executive director of the Tel Hi Neighborhood Center, shares that beyond celebrating, “125 years of serving the people of San Francisco and providing critical services and programs to underserved families, Tel Hi was able to provide preschool services for more than 50 children under the age of two and a half, afterschool care for more than 100 elementary school children and programs for 300 seniors.”
A Taste of Tel Hi’s Event Chair, John Keker, founding partner of Keker & Van Nest LLP, notes that, “We’ve been involved with Tel Hi since we first moved to San Francisco 43 years ago. The Center serves so many needs and impacts so many lives in this community: it’s a neighborhood institution that the whole city should treasure.”
