The Mina Test Kitchen announces first pop-up concept in new Cow Hollow space

James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Mina and Chef Partner Adam Sobel are joining forces to create the first pop-up concept in The MINA Test Kitchen, the group’s recently acquired space in the City’s Cow Hollow neighborhood. Truly a passion project for both chefs, the pop-up is inspired by their ancestry. Born in Egypt, Mina will embrace his Middle Eastern background while Sobel will explore his roots on both sides of the Mediterranean. Possessing a strong desire to explore their heritage while cooking food that is close to their hearts, the duo will introduce a celebration of eastern Mediterranean cuisine, combining the flavors of Israel, Turkey, Egypt and Lebanon with a family-style approach in Middle’terranea, a Pop-Up Dinner Series beginning Thursday, July 23.

“The MINA Test Kitchen is an ever-evolving and exciting concept, allowing us to both test out possible restaurant concepts and dishes, as well as showcase our amazing culinary and beverage talent,” said Mina. “We’re utilizing the space to tap into different cultures and ways of eating, allowing our teams within Mina Group to collaborate and come up with fun, inventive ideas while gaining instant feedback from guests.”

The first pop-up series at The MINA Test Kitchen, Middle’terranea begins on Thursday, July 23, and will be hosted Wednesday through Saturday nights. Inspired by Michael’s mother’s ability to bring comfort and warmth through her food and the human interaction that takes place over a meal, the multi-course menu by Mina and Sobel will be served family-style, featuring a modern refresh of traditional dishes from the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean regions. Selections include laffa amuse, choice salads, fish in aromatic broth, char grilled or roasted meats, and sweets, among others.

“The test kitchen concept is very exciting because it provides us with a unique opportunity to push us outside of our comfort zone,” said Sobel. “For example, Michael will get to showcase the food he grew up with as a child, and I look forward to being creative with my Jewish roots. We hope the community and neighborhood will embrace the stories we tell through our food, as well as our other curiosities and passions that we’ll be drawing from with future pop-ups.”The optional beverage pairing is influenced by the Mediterranean, with a selection of beer, wine, mead and cider that showcase the best of the region and its ingredients.Tickets to The MINA Test Kitchen pop-up Middle’terranea are $45 per person, exclusive of tax, gratuity and beverages. The beverage pairing is $30 per person.

Tickets will be available for purchase soon. The space is also available for private events Sunday through Tuesday.
