Creator of Ahmad Couture, Sha Ali Ahmad is blazing his way on the red carpet. With GEV’s current Issue 17 celebrating all things INDIA, Sha’s intricate and beautiful designs grace the issue’s cover and shares with us his story growing up in a small town that lead him to New Delhi, a city highly connected to fashion and one of the top fashion cities in the world.

Aside from being a fashion designer what is something you intend or plan to do in your career life?

I want to build a Fashion House to provide a healthy working environment for the less fortunate in my county. I want to provide a place where they can learn and hone their skills in the art of embroidery and handy craft.

Q&A With New Delhi Designer Sha Ali Ahmad

GEV: What current summer fashion faux pas are forgivable?

SAA: Whatever the person wearing feels comfortable in their skin, confident and happy then who are we to judge? Thatʻs their fashion statement.

GEV: How do you see Indian fashion evolving in the next year or so? What excites you most about it?

SAA: Hollywood has the biggest influence in the Indian Fashion Industry. It feeds and breathes the latest trends, infused by western culture. What excites me is the new generation, Indian fashion will be more flexible and bolder, not afraid to experiment and I want to be part of this exciting fashion revolution.

GEV: What textile best reflects your personality? Why?

SAA: Linen. I may look rough on the outside but in reality I have a big soft heart. If you donʻt know me you may think I am a snob, thatʻs the common misconception. So like a raw linen, itʻs wearable, comfortable and yet classy. Just like me I am a man of my word.

GEV: Tell us the story about your current collection.

SAA: My collection is an array of colors, beadwork, and meticulous hand embroidery. They are all different and unique. I donʻt want to create just one look. I have so many ideas in my head that I know Iʻll never run out of.
