About Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates
Ginger Elizabeth Hahn brings a mastery of classical technique together with an intuitive understanding of chocolate’s potential to produce exemplary chocolate creations. She incorporates a simple philosophy: To use only the freshest of ingredients to illicit the best look and taste that chocolate has to offer.
Ginger knew by the age of 19 that chocolate was her particular calling in the pastry world. She has been working professionally with chocolate for over 10 years and is a formally trained chocolatier and pastry chef. She studied pastry at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York where she graduated top of her class receiving the CIA Management Award and Angel Scholastic Award.
While in New York, Ginger worked for world-renowned chocolatiers Jacques Torres, MOF and Daniel Budd.
After graduation, Ginger took a position at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago where she apprenticed under the world-famous pastry chef En-Ming Hsu, 2001 World Pastry Cup gold medalist. Under the guidance of En-Ming, Ginger further refined her skills with chocolate and in the pastry arts.
By 2005 Ginger had returned to California to be close to her family and start her own business. At the age of 24, Ginger opened the wholesale company Couture Chocolates by Ginger Elizabeth. The company allowed her to practice and showcase the talents and skills she had acquired, while continuing to learn and explore new ideas. The wholesale business was successful and by 2008, Ginger and her husband Tom launched their retail store in Midtown Sacramento under the company’s new name, Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates.
Since founding Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates, she has been invited to the Ecole du Grand Chocolat Valrhona to study bon bons and added to her accolades which include; visited cocoa farms in Belize to observe the chocolate making process and the importance of the cocoa farmers; been chosen by Vanini, one of Italy’s largest chocolate makers, to consult on their entrance into the American market; attended a chocolate technology course with Richardson Research at UC Davis to better understand the scientific process behind the making of chocolate; featured as a top chocolatier on the TLC show “Chocolate Wars”; and named by the Sacramento Business Journal as one of the regions “40 Under 40” notable businesspeople.
In 2010, Ginger was named one of the Top Ten Chocolatiers in North America by Dessert Professional Magazine.
Most days Ginger can be found at her boutique in Midtown Sacramento making chocolates, developing new recipes, and sharing her passion and love for all things chocolate with her customers. Her two young sons help taste-test her new artisan chocolates, macarons (light meringue cookie sandwiches with filling) and ice cream treats. Ginger values their fresh palates and unfiltered feedback. “Taste is subjective and people should eat what they like,” adds Ginger.
About Sonoma Syrup Co.
Located in Northern California’s Wine Country, Karin Campion founded Sonoma Syrup Co. in 2002. The uniquely American syrups and extracts reflect the flavors and sensibility of the region. Using exceptional naturally derived, high quality flavors and healthful ingredients, the Sonoma Syrup Co. handcrafts in small batches their artisan culinary products.
A lifelong California resident, Karin created the Sonoma Syrup Co. to capture and share the quintessential flavors of Sonoma. Karin studied architecture and gardens in Rome, Florence, Nantucket and in Southern California. She develops specialty foods for a variety of market segments as a culmination of her broad experience with botanicals, cooking, design and family life with her three sons.
She developed the Infused Simple Syrups from her own kitchen garden. As they develop new varietal flavors of botanically Infused Simple Syrup and other artisan culinary products, they encourage people who love to cook – both at home or in the professional kitchen – a taste of the principal of terroir and artisan blending, which have resulted in their extraordinary American Artisan products.
Karin expresses, “We care about what you put in your body and believe that ‘healthy beverages’ and ‘great flavor’ can live in synchronicity. A little bit of sugar is a luxurious indulgence — so we take our product, the people we touch and our purpose personally.”
She explains that the journey their syrup makes to get to you is a sustainable one. Their bottles are made of recyclable and compostable materials, and handcraft in small batch kettles. They source locally and organic as much as possible and are on our their way to a non-GMO verification. Their sugar is pure cane and strive to be as authentic and genuine as their fresh all-natural flavors; their fruits are picked from organic orchards and fresh botanicals from organic gardens.
