Michelin Star Chef Brings Pop-Up Italian Restaurant to Napa Valley

No need to travel to Italy for acclaimed, authentic Italian cuisine.  Michelin Star Chef Stefano Masanti brings his restaurant, Il Cantinone, to the cellars of V. Sattui Winery for two very special “pop-up” dinners on Friday, June 24th and Friday, October 14th.  On both nights, dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and feature a multi-course tasting menu paired with V. Stefano Masanti is a Michelin-star chef and is the founder and visionary of one of northern Italy’s most beloved restaurants, Il Cantinone.  Masanti is the Executive Chef and his accomplished wife, Raffaella, a professional sommelier, greets guests in the restaurant located in the small ski-village of Madesimo, in the Italian Alps.  Stefano and Raffaella spend their off-season at V. Sattui extending their warm hospitality and creating culinary magic for group events and weddings at the winery.

Masanti’s Il Cantinone Pop-Up dinner will feature a multi-course tasting menu, similar to the format he serves in his own restaurant.  One of the earliest proponents of the Slow Food movement, Chef Masanti believes in the value of preserving and protecting regional food traditions from around the world.  He will use local Northern California ingredients, interpreted with his own, playful, Italian flair.

Known for his infectious smile, sharp wit, strong work ethic, and his culinary prowess, Masanti has forged an adventurous career that has spanned both Europe and the U.S.

Born in Milan in 1970, Stefano Masanti grew up in the Lombardian resort town of Madesimo, where he recalls his first day in the kitchen, at just 5 years old, helping his grandfather churn vanilla gelato for the family business, Hotel Andossi. He received his B.A. degree in hospitality at the Hotel Institute Crotto Caurga Chiavenna, followed by three years at the University of Milan, where he majored in public relations. Additional professional development includes time in France’s Ecole Lenotre, Alain Ducasse’s culinary school, Ducasse Education, and the culinary institute in Brescia, Italy.

Chef Masanti is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals; he has helped launch a number of restaurants and hotels in Poland; and for years he successfully managed Il Cantinone, the highly acclaimed, Michelin-star restaurant adjacent to his family’s hotel in Madesimo. An accomplished master of charcuterie, Masanti was named “Craftsman of the Year” in all of Italy by the 2009 Identità Golose for best Valchiavenna bresaola.

Sattui Winery: V. Sattui Winery is a family-owned property located in the heart of Napa Valley that was founded in 1885 and makes more than 60 different wines with dozens of 90+ point rated wines among its current vintages. V. Sattui wines are sustainably farmed (some from its own organic vineyard) and are sold exclusively from the winery, direct to consumer. V. Sattui Winery is located on a 38-acre vineyard in the center of the Napa Valley, along Highway 29 (at White Lane) in St. Helena. The winery welcomes visitors daily for wine tastings between 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. daily (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter months), as well as barbeque on weekends in the warmer months of the year.  Information for V.
