Take one dashing Turkish software engineer, add a generous helping of cocktails, a pinch of culinary genius, a sprinkling of Silicon Valley and Bay Area glitterati, and you get everybody’s favorite dish – Orkut Buyukkokten – founder of Hello.com (a fabulous new entrant in the social network landscape) as well as the captivating cover model for GEV Magazine’s most avant-garde issue to date.
The best parties happen when one thing leads to another, which was absolutely the case at GEV Magazine’s Tech Issue Launch Party. A forward-looking ethos of 200 smoking-hot techies and creative fashionistas converged on Orkut’s Hello.com penthouse headquarters, finding endless rooms in which to cavort and make new friends.
Turn right to go through the art deco décor and Gatsbyesque ostrich feathers to groove on the dance floor with Orkut and tech friends like Robert Moon, Robert Wong & Rana Gujral to the smooth sounds of X-Factor’s Jason Brock and Mayra Swatt of the Klipptones. Turn left for tasty clear-alcohol cocktails at the sleek bar hosted by Vesper Synd, the “psychotic-erotique” and served up by gorgeous men and women in sexy white briefs and bikinis, featuring the ultra-fit performers of the Haus Serpens Cabaret. Look in either direction to mingle with notables such as Seval Oz, Deborah Parker Wong, and GEV’s Founder, Kaye Cloutman. Then, head up the floating blue-lit staircase to drink from a Roman-inspired ice sculpture or squeeze in a photo-op with local celebrities Liz Curtis, Sophie Azouaou, Teresa Rodriguez, Joel Goodrich, Jessica Aguirre, Joel Riddell, or Hooman Khalili on the rooftop deck overlooking a panoramic view of the city. Linger long enough in one spot and you’ll observe people expressing their unique individuality through fashion. Some guests nailed it when it came to piecing together outfits, like fashion designers Angelina Haole, Ana Cecilia Ortega, Clayton Beck, Luz dela Riva and Solange Mallett, while others raised eyebrows wearing the kind of outré ensembles we all wish we had the courage to don.
Besides the incredible tequila, what fueled this mischievous crowd? Naughty but nice small bites from Nick Liang & John Phung of Uncle Yu’s at The Vineyard and Chef Thomas Rhodes of Bob’s Steakhouse at Omni Hotel SF. Passed appetizers included melt-in-your-mouth Maine Lobster Shu-Mai, sumptuous Sea Bass Puffs, seductive Prime Tenderloin Sliders, and playful Dungeness Crab Cakes as well as the ecstasy-inducing chocolates by Ramon & Nicole Perez of Purr Chocolate.
