Valentine’s Day Menus in Bay Area Restaurants Offer Romantic Food-Cocktail Pairings
DOSA has put together two special 4-course menus for Valentine’s Day – choose from either the “Truffle” or “Spice” Menu. The Truffle menu will feature dishes such as a Black Truffle Dosa, Farmers’ Market Mushroom Korma and for dessert, Pistachio Financier with rose petal gelato; the Spice Menu will feature dishes such as a Seared Duck Breast Uttapam, Goan Coconut Lamb Masala and Mango Pavlova for dessert. At DOSA Fillmore, both menus are $95 per person (excluding tax & gratuity) with optional wine pairings for $55. DOSA Valencia will be offering a la carte options with DOSA’s family-style menus and a variety of Valentine’s Day specials. Guests will also receive a complimentary splash of bubbles and take away treat.
DOSA’s Wine Director/Sommelier Todd Smith has also put together special wine pairings that are a friendly battle of France vs. Italy. The unique terrior of both countries allow DOSA to source from different corners of these juggernaut wine nations. The Truffle Menu plays around with the Alpine influence of Northern Italy’s Piedmont and the Adriatic Sea effect on sunny Tuscany. The Spice Menu delves into cooler areas of finesse-driven wines in Alsace, Champagne, and Beaujolais, as well as the hilly Pyreness districts of Cahors and Jurancon in France.

Wine Director Johnny Catalano has a few wine and cocktail pairings in mind for this year’s holiday. Sparkling Rosé is always a great way to start and pairs well with both the Tuna Carpaccio and the current Crudo offering (tuna, yellowfin, and halibut). To take it up a notch, he recommends enjoying those dishes with a Kir Royale– a French cocktail of crème de cassis topped with sparkling wine and served in a flute glass. Another “sexy” cocktail recommendation for Valentine’s Day is Poggio’s Italian Love Affair – made with Knob Creek Bourbon, Prosecco, and Sicilian Blood Orange Liqueur. For a nice bottle of wine in lieu of cocktails, Johnny suggests the Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. At $42 a bottle, it is easy drinking and balanced with just the right amount of structure at a loveable price.
