Ghirardelli Chocolate Company Celebrates 160 Years Of Producing Premium Chocolate

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, San Francisco’s premier chocolate maker, is celebrating 160 years of creating irresistible premium chocolate. To mark this milestone, Ghirardelli Chocolate has planned a number of events to celebrate and thank chocolate lovers for sharing in the company’s 160 year devotion to chocolate.
Ghirardelli Chocolate, the Bay Area’s first chocolate manufacturer, has a rich and vibrant history, beginning with the fascinating story of Domenico Ghirardelli, an Italian confectioner. After spending several years in South America operating Domingo’s Chocolates, Ghirardelli landed in San Francisco and started the world-famous Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. With Ghirardelli’s vision in mind, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company pioneered innovations in bean roasting and became the first company to introduce bittersweet chocolate chips.“With a deep commitment to creating chocolate that America loves, Ghirardelli Chocolate has become the leader in premium chocolate making,” says Martin Thompson, Ghirardelli president and CEO “For 160 years, customers have enjoyed our wide range of chocolate and we look forward to presenting exciting new flavors for many years to come.”
Ghirardelli Chocolate Cruise
Last July 21st, Ghirardelli Chocolate partnered with the SS Jeremiah O’Brien for the first Ghirardelli Chocolate Cruise. Departing Pier 45 at Fisherman’s Wharf, the cruise celebrated Ghirardelli’s 160th anniversary and all things chocolate. While sailing in the scenic San Francisco Bay, the cruise featured a special “Chocolate School” presentation conducted by Ghirardelli’s head chocolate maker Steve Genzoli.  The cruise also included a continental breakfast, a boxed lunch served on the main deck at noon, beverages, live music and a tour of the engine room as seen in the blockbuster hit “Titanic”. And, of course, plenty of chocolate, ice cream, and hot cocoa courtesy of Ghirardelli Chocolate.
