Official SF Chefs Kick-Off Party

Club 72 at Piers 27/29 of America’s Cup Park was the perfect venue for the official kick-off party for SF Chefs yesterday July 29, 2013 , as it provided amazing views of San Francisco and the Bay. This Industry Night featured Wines of Chile and a selection of tantalizing appetizers from Alioto’s (one of San Francisco’s oldest fine dining restaurants), Butterfly, Belly Burgers, Credo and San Francisco’s very own Columbus Salumeria.

Bartenders each sporting traditional South American hats set the mood for a sampling of Wines from Chile. Chilean wines from 3 distinct wine regions were showcased last night: 2010 Carmen Gran Reserva Carmenere from the Maipo Valley, 2010 Primus The Blend and 2011 Primus Carmenere from the Colchagua Valley, and from the Casablanca Valley: 2012 Nimbus Sauvignon Blanc, 2011 Veramonte Suavignon Blanc, 2012 Ventisquero Sauvignon Blanc, and 2012 Cono Sur Pinot Noir and 2012 Alazan Pinot Noir.

Chef Rob Lam of Butterfly warmed our bodies with a Spicy Oxtail and Lemongrass Soup “Hue” Style, adding that his twist to this soup includes 2 kinds of tofu. We also sampled Smoked Salmon and Strawberry Salad rolls which is a staple of Butterfly’s menu. Chef David Taylor of Credo prepared Tuna Conserva with Green Tomato Jam which paired well with his Medjool Dates stuffed with Pancetta, Gorgonzola and Walnuts. Chef Tom Pizzica of Belly Burgers got us all hooked on his Belly Burgers which are 100% Ground Pork Belly served “sliders” style with Fried Pepper Aioli, Tomatillo Relish and Cotija Cheese on Hawaiian King Roll; we just had to come back for more! In keeping with their fame as one of San Francisco’s fine seafood restaurants, Alioto’s lured guests with their Seafood Sausage filled with chunks of lobster, crab and rock shrimp! An assortment of salame from Columbus was also part of tonight’s teaser menu.

It was a fun evening which created an atmosphere of excitement among Industry folks ready for the real thing SFChefs has to offer!
