Hitting Kensal Rise today is Madame Gautier BISTRO, BAR À VIN and TRAITEUR from chef and entrepreneur Mark Gautier and his wife Corinne. The menu, under the direction of Gautier himself, is informed by traditional French methods combining carefully sourced seasonal farm fresh produce.

English-born, half-French, Gautier is a classically trained chef who has worked extensively in both the UK and France including 3-star Michelin restaurants from The Georges V and the Negresco to the Waterside Brasserie and the Savoy and others.

The menu features Poulet au Citron – breast of chicken with a lemon, Dijon mustard, cream and mint sauce with riz pilaf; Salade Madame Gautier – pan fried chicken livers, parsley, garlic and croutons with a light raspberry vinaigrette and mixed leaves; Confit de Canard aux Haricots Blancs – confit French duck leg with white beans, lardons and parsley and Tarte Fine aux Figues – crisp butter pastry baked with frangipane and fresh figs served with honey and ginger ice cream.

Inside you’ll find traditional upholstery, reclaimed timber tabletops, exposed brick and Victorian style artisanal tiling. A U-shaped bar, separating the main dining area on one side from the lively French style BAR À VIN on the other. The latter offers a selection of wines, spirits and draught beers. There’s also a stone patio outside.

Hot meals are served in large paella pans from the traiteur counter to be enjoyed in house, or to-go. The counter will also feature a fresh selection of meals to reheat at home. The original family run traiteur was founded in 2005 and operates out of various farmers’ markets and from its shop in Barnes. An associated cookery school, La Technique, teaches the skills of classic French cuisine out of the NW10 base.
