Paris Fashion Week Features Elena Rudenko SS14

Our skin, our outer surface, as rough as tree bark; an armor behind which lies our essence, our genetic memory, our identity. The memory of our roots and our cultural past is within each of us; it flows through our veins and vessels, braided fibers in our muscles; it is stored in us at a cellular level.

Dense structures of cottons leads to the lightness of crepe de Chine, raw linen weaving hides ornamental splashes of viscose while linen-silk blends changes its color to ecru and unbleached silk deceptively mimics linen thread.

Draperies, tucks and folds, exaggerated volumes complement tailored fits. The interplay of textures, ornaments and cut, achieved through moulage techniques, highlight and protect fragile femininity.

Inspired by her native Ukraine, Elena Rudenko plays on its rich heritage through ornamental accessories: a stylized cockerel – symbol of life’s origin and wealth – appears as amulet and handmade woven beads give a charming twist to graphic accessories.
