Winesong 2014 generated significantly more funds than 2013 with the auctions generating over $600,000, including a record fund-a-need of $174,000 in what was a poignant tribute to late auctioneer David Reynolds, and to directly support cardiac care at the Mendocino Coast District Hospital. Highlights of the 2013 auction included the fund-a-need, specifically to be used to purchase a new ambulance, brought in $116,000 in a matter of minutes.

Winesong’s 2015 Artist of the Year Janis Porter was born and raised in Berkeley, California. She studied at the University of California at Berkeley earning a bachelors and Masters degree. After a lifetime of interest in art and art history and a teaching career (elementary and college level), she began painting watercolors in 1998. Her work was shown almost immediately in galleries in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2001, she moved to beautiful Mendocino, California to pursue her painting in this inspiring environment. Her paintings have earned many awards, including some from the California Watercolor Association and the Mendocino Art Center. She has acted as Exhibition Chairman for the Mendocino Art Center since 2001. Her somewhat whimsical landscape and floral watercolors are widely collected. Her subjects, abstracted from nature, explore the color, shape and movement she observes in the diverse California landscape. She uses vivid colors with a strong design element.
