Manresa + Maameo: Two Nights, Four Hands, Six Stars

Chef David Kinch welcomes Norway’s only three-Michelin-star Chef Esben Holmboe Bang of Maaemo for a two-night collaboration April 14 and April 15

Chef David Kinch continues his series of international collaborations, welcoming Chef Esben Holmboe Bang of Maaemo to Manresa, on April 14 and April 15, 2018. The duo will present a 10-course tasting menu showcasing a shared commitment to working with only the highest-quality ingredients. Accompanied by an optional wine pairing from Master Sommelier Jim Rollston, the evening reflects three-Michelin-star chefs Kinch and Holmboe Bang’s likeminded culinary philosophies rooted in the terroir of California and Norway, respectively.

“I have a profound admiration for Chef Esben Holmboe Bang’s drive not only to master his metier, but also to explore and question each ingredient’s genesis, ensuring that a distinctive ‘sense of place’ is reflected on the plate,” Kinch says. “I’m looking forward to our time together in the kitchen, trading perspectives, and continuing to learn. There’s always a discovery and new creations that are exciting for the Manresa team’s growth and, especially, for our guests.”

Chef Esben Holmboe Bang was born and raised in Copenhagen, but spent most of his culinary career in Oslo. His cuisine focuses on creating an experience around clean, bright flavors using entirely organic, biodynamic, or wild produce. At Maaemo, Holmboe Bang transports guests on a culinary tour of Norway, from the temperate climate of the southerly Hvaler islands to the cold pristine waters of Norway’s West Coast, and on to the expansive inland wilderness of Røros. In 2012, just 14 months after opening, Maaemo earned two Michelin stars, followed by a third star awarded in 2016. Maaemo is the first restaurant in Norway to achieve the honor, and Holmboe Bang is the youngest chef to currently hold three Michelin stars. Maaemo was listed No. 79 in the top 100 restaurants in the world at the 2017 World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, and No. 29 in the top 100 restaurants in the world by Elite Traveler magazine. Additionally, Holmboe Bang was named one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential Chefs in the World” and Elite Travelermagazine’s “2016 Young Chef of the Year.”

The Manresa + Maaemo collaboration builds upon a series of international culinary events held in 2017 to commemorate Manresa’s 15th anniversary. Highlights from the year include “The Residency,” a partnership with Relais & Châteaux and some of the most legendary culinary houses in France; a weekend of dinners at Manresa with esteemed three-Michelin-starred Chef Niko Romito of Reale; and a guest chef event with Kinch at Taiwan’s Le Moŭt, one of the 2018 World’s 50 Best Restaurants for Asia. Additional collaborations are in the works for later this year.

In 2018, Manresa proudly celebrates its third consecutive year with three Michelin stars. The restaurant has also been recognized on the World’s 100 Best Restaurants for 12 consecutive years. In 2016, Manresa became part of the esteemed Relais & Châteaux family.

The 10-course Manresa + Maaemo menu is priced at $495 per guest with an optional wine pairing for $285 per guest. To reserve a table on April 14 or 15, please call 408.354.4330. For more information on Manresa, please visit www.manresarestaurant.com.
