New and Familiar Cheeses Bestowed Honors

Marin French Cheese & Laura Chenel’s Win 24 Awards
at California’s 2018 State Fair Competition
At this year’s annual California State Fair Commercial Cheese Competition which included 23 California producers, Marin French Cheese and Laura Chenel’s each garnered 12 awards for their excellence in cheesemaking. Not only a testament to the cheesemakers’ skill, know-how and ingenuity, but also to the companies’ commitment to making high quality products, always using fresh milk and other locally-sourced ingredients when possible.
Of the 12 awards received by Marin French Cheese, more than half of those were for the brand’s Petite Collection of brie-style cheeses. Each of the seven varieties were honored: Petite Breakfast, Petite Camembert, Petite Jalapeño, and Petite Cendrée each garnered Gold awards; Petite Crème and Petite Truffle earned Silver; and Petite Supreme took home a Bronze medal.
Marin French Cheese’s washed-rinded Schloss and creamy Camembert each won Gold honors, while Silver awards were attributed to the brand’s Traditional Brie and Supreme Brie. The Triple Crème Brie received a Bronze medal.
On an equally impressive note, sister company Laura Chenel’s also earned the judges’ favor among the 142 cheeses evaluated, garnering 6 Gold medals for its Original Medallion, Original Chabis, 4-Peppercorn Chabis, Goat Brie, and both the Spicy Cabecou and the Cabecou in Herbs. The brand’s recently launched Black Truffle Cabecou earned a Silver, as did its Black Truffle, Crushed Olive, and Original logs. Bronze award-winning products included the Sun-dried Tomato & Basil Medallion as well as the Fig & Grapefruit Medallion.
